At the Sydney Cognitive Development Centre we run a modified
program of the extremely successful Stop Think Do program designed
by Lindy Peterson and Allyson Adderley. Since we general work with
children with more widespread cognitive problems such as ADHD and
Asperger's disorder, we individualise the program according to a
child's personal difficulties. For example, for children who are highly
impulsive we may spend more time focusing on the "Stop" part of the
program.
Aim: To teach children aged 4-16 years the following skills:
- How to get to know people
- How to look & listen for feelings
- How to communicate their feelings
- How to solve social problems
- How to act/respond in an effective way
- How to initiate positive behaviours
- How to deal with negative behaviour
This is presented in 3 main steps:
Step 1: STOP, look and listen
Step 2: THINK about options and consequences
Step 3: Choose the best option to DO
